When good friends can only see each other a couple of times a year, it's important to cram as much activity into each short visit as possible. My friend Shirley made the journey from Juneau for a visit last week. One of the activities Shirley and I always seem to pack into a visit is some sort of sewing or quilting activity. During this visit, among other sewing activities, Shirley and I took a Mystery class at our local fabric shop. For a minimal fee, the shop provided the materials, a dinner and 4 hours of sewing time to work on the project. The shop put together packages of fabric in 3 different colorways. Each package included enough fabric to complete the quilt top, and the instructions for our 'homework.' We were to come to class with our fabric cut to the specifications listed on the instructions. We each picked a different colorway. Shirley said she hadn't ever made a batik quilt so she picked the batik package. I don't have anything patriotic, so I picked the red, white and blue package.
The pattern turned out to be a rail fence.
